153 Years Since The Abolition of Slavery

13th-amendment.png153 years ago today the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified - ending the practice of slavery in our country.

Although generations have passed since the end of this pernicious practice we have much work to do. Today we remember all of the lives torn apart, stolen, and taken due to the practice of slavery. We commit to ensuring that our communities embrace the universal values of freedom and justice. We are committed to realizing a 21st Century vision of voter empowerment, equity, and inclusion. We must continue the work of abolitionists, civil rights activists, fair housing advocates, and generations of others who have worked for justice to ensure that our communities are safe, fair, and welcoming.
